Eight ways to slow down: a bathhouse, four hotel spas, two yoga studios and two massage clinics

Gold Coast spa and wellness: eight options, with type, location, price range and what's included each — Soak Bathhouse, the Azure Spa at The Star, Spa by JW, InterContinental Gold Coast, two yoga studios and two massage clinics.

After a week of surf, sun and a full boardwalk, the body wants one thing: to slow down. These are the eight ways to do it on the coast — a bathhouse, four hotel spas, two yoga studios and two massage clinics, with what each one is, where it is, what it costs and what's included.

The Short Version

The shape of it: a bathhouse (a 90-minute session, a cold plunge, a sauna — the “microdose of wellness” option), a hotel spa (a proper treatment, a room, a long menu — the once-a-year option), a yoga studio (a morning class, $25–$35 — the daily option), and a massage clinic (a remedial or a relaxation, $75–$160 — the “the back's gone” option). All eight are below, in that order of use. Prices are current ranges — check with each venue before you book. Soak Bathhouse

Soak Bathhouse

Type: communal bathhouse (Pacific Square, Mermaid Beach). Location: 2532–2540 Gold Coast Highway, Mermaid Beach. Price: from about $39 for a 90-minute session (a weekly membership option is available). Included: the outdoor hot mineral spas, a cold plunge pool (set at about 12°C), a sauna and steam room, a yoga studio, an LED room, and a relaxation area — all self-service; massage, an LED express facial and a private infrared sauna are bookable add-ons. What it's for: the “an hour to reset” option — a pop-in, a float, a plunge, and out. Family-owned, founded by locals; the point is that it's affordable. Soak Bathhouse

Azure Spa & Fitness (Mantra at The Star)

Type: hotel day spa (Mantra at The Star, Broadbeach). Location: pool level, The Star Gold Coast, Broadbeach. Price: the Kodo Rock Massage is $170 for 60 minutes / $230 for 90; a couples' package (two 60-minute massages plus two hours of private cabana hire, a bottle of Chandon, water and towels) is about $450. Included: six treatment rooms (including a dual room and an outdoor cabana), BABOR skincare, a Technogym fitness centre, and the resort's pool deck. What it's for: the “once-a-year proper treatment” option — a hot-stone massage, a cabana, and the resort around it. Azure Spa & Fitness

Spa by JW (JW Marriott)

Type: luxury hotel spa (JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort & Spa, Surfers Paradise). Location: 158 Ferny Avenue, Surfers Paradise. Price: 60-minute signature massages and hot-stone treatments; 90-minute packages about $320–$340 (valued higher). Included: six treatment rooms and a signature couples' room (with a relaxation lounge, an ensuite stone bath and twin showers), a copper foot-soak ritual, a sauna and steam-shower access, and a tea refreshment. What it's for: the “the full half-day” option — the four benefits (Calm, Indulge, Invigorate, Renew), and a couples' bath before the massage. Spa by JW

InterContinental Gold Coast

Type: hotel spa (InterContinental Gold Coast, Broadbeach). Location: 1 Casino Drive, Broadbeach (inside The Star complex). Included: the treatment, a relaxation room, and the resort's spa facilities; spa guests use the enhanced gym. What it's for: the “the resort spa” option — a proper treatment in a 5-star setting, a short drive from Surfers. Book via IHG InterContinental. IHG InterContinental

Innerbloom Yoga

Price: classes from about $25–$35 (check the current timetable). Included: vinyasa (flow), yin and restorative classes, small class sizes, and a natural-light studio; open seven days a week. What it's for: the “a morning flow” option — a 45–60-minute class before the beach, and the studio that runs every day of the week. Innerbloom Yoga

HB Studio

Type: yoga and movement studio (Surfers Paradise). Location: 9 Beach Road, Surfers Paradise. Price: Slow Flow is $25 casual (Thursday 6:30pm); members' options available. What it's for: the “an evening reset” option — a 6:30pm class after a full day, and the studio that's about slowing down, not working out. HB Studio

Burleigh Heads Massage

Type: massage clinic (Burleigh Heads). Location: Shop 3/1726 Gold Coast Highway, Burleigh Heads. Price: relaxation massage $75 (45min) to $140 (90min); deep-tissue $80 (45min) to $145 (90min); remedial massage (a private-health rebate is available). Included: the treatment, a consultation, and a proper room; open 9am–7pm, Monday to Sunday. What it's for: the “the back's gone” option — a remedial, a deep-tissue, or a proper relaxation, in the local end of the coast. Burleigh Heads Massage

White Stone Wellness

Type: boutique clinic (Burleigh Heads). Location: 33B Connor Street, Burleigh Heads — five minutes' walk from the beach, steps from James Street. Price: per-session (check current pricing). Included: remedial massage, lymphatic drainage, and pregnancy & postnatal (from 12 weeks) — quiet rooms, unhurried sessions, each one shaped to where your body is at. What it's for: the “the aches aren't just tension” option — a proper remedial, a lymphatic, or a pregnancy session, in a quiet clinic on Connor Street. White Stone Wellness

Matching the Fix to the Problem

By what the body's actually doing: a post-surf reset — Soak Bathhouse (the plunge and the float) or Burleigh Heads Massage (a proper massage). an aches-that-aren't-tension — White Stone Wellness (the remedial, the lymphatic, the pregnancy). a once-a-year luxury — Spa by JW (the half-day) or Azure Spa (the treatment plus the cabana). a daily calm — Innerbloom Yoga (the morning flow) or HB Studio (the evening reset). And whatever you pick — book the spa and the massage ahead in summer; the yoga studios run daily and take walk-ins. The coast is a long, loud place; the point of the week is to slow down before you leave.
