Gold Coast Experiences

From world-class surf to rainforest waterfalls

Seventy kilometres of coast, a mountain range right next door, and a hinterland of rainforest and wineries β€” the Gold Coast has more variety than most people give it credit for. Here's what we'd do, if we were you.

Things to Do

The Coast, From Every Angle

Most people hit the Gold Coast for a week and only see the surf. But the best version of this trip layers things together β€” a morning on Kirra's peaky waves, an afternoon feeding kangaroos at Currumbin, a sunset boat cruise back through Southport Marina, and a slow drive up to Tamborine for rainforest air and a glass of local wine. We've put together the experiences we keep sending our guests back for, whether you're a first-timer, a surfer chasing a clean session, or a family looking for something a bit different to the theme parks.

Signature Experiences

Eight Things We'd Never Skip

Each one is something a different kind of traveller will remember β€” and most of them stack neatly into a single week.

Surfing at Kirra

World-Class Surfing

Kirra, Tallebudgera, Coolangatta, Burleigh Heads β€” some of the most consistent breaks in the world, from point breaks to reef-adjacent beaches. Lessons available for every level, from your first pop-up to refining your backside.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

Feed kangaroos, hold a koala, and meet hundreds of native species β€” from cassowaries to pythons β€” in one of Australia's most established wildlife parks. One of the Gold Coast’s most-loved family experiences on the coast, and genuinely fun for grown-ups too.

Boat on the Broadwater

Broadwater Boating

Take a sunset cruise through Southport Marina, charter a boat out onto the Broadwater for the day, or learn to sail with a local skipper. The water is sheltered, the light is golden β€” it's the Gold Coast at its calmest.

Byron Bay

Byron Bay Day Trip

90 minutes north of the coast: Australia's easternmost mainland point, a world-famous break at Main Beach, and a main street more photogenic than anywhere else on the east coast. Do it in a day β€” or give it an afternoon and a night.

Oceanway coastal walk at Coolangatta

Main Beach Walking

The 3km Oceanway coastal walk at Coolangatta β€” one of the longest continuous sand runs on the coast. Walk, run, or paddleboard it at sunrise. It's the Gold Coast without the towers: just sand, water, and the quiet hum of the dunes.

Cavill Avenue at night

Nightlife & Night Market

Cavill Avenue is the Gold Coast's beating heart after dark β€” live music, street food, and a night market that runs deep into the night. Southport has the calmer, more polished end of the story. Pick your energy level.

Beyond the Coast

Day Trip Ideas

The best days out on the Gold Coast aren't always on the coast. Three of our favourites, with travel times from Surfers Paradise β€” we'll arrange transport and booking.

Byron Bay main beach
90 min north

Byron Bay

Byron Bay is 90 minutes up the coast and a different world entirely. The break at Main Beach is world-class β€” long, peaking waves that work for days on a swell β€” and the main street is the most photogenic on the east coast, with a food scene that punches well above its size.

Catch the sunrise at Cape Byron Lookout, Australia's easternmost mainland point, surf or watch, then work through the cafes and the night market. We can set you up with a guided day trip β€” transport, surf lessons, and lunch sorted β€” or self-drive if you prefer the open road.

Springbrook National Park rainforest
30 min west

Springbrook National Park

Springbrook is about an hour from Surfers and the quickest escape into rainforest you'll find. The park's trails run through old-growth eucalypt and fig trees, past lookouts that drop 300 metres into the gorge β€” and the Twin Falls (40m drop) and the Natural Bridge glow-worm cave is the reward at the end of one of the best easy walks in the state.

The classic full day runs the Tamborine Mountain road β€” 27.7km of winding, lookouts, and vineyard stops β€” then the waterfalls in the afternoon. We'll have a driver and a packed lunch waiting; all you have to do is point out which waterfall you want to swim under.

Tamborine Mountain rainforest
1 hr into the hinterland

The Gold Coast Hinterland

The hinterland β€” Tamborine Mountain and the ranges behind it β€” is an hour's drive into a landscape of rainforest, lookouts, and small-batch everything. Start on the mountain's famous winding road, cross the glass bridge 300 metres above the valley floor, and work through the lookouts for views that stretch to the ocean.

Then it's wine tasting: the region's cellar doors run to a few short walks, and the local wines β€” rieslings, sauvignon blancs, a few reds that surprise β€” go down fast in the mountain air. We'll pair it with lunch and a slow afternoon; it's the day your group will talk about for a year.
