Laid-Back & Family-Friendly

Caravan Parks & Holiday Parks

The Gold Coast's most relaxed way to stay. Tree-shaded sites, powered and unpowered, holiday cabins, and parks with ocean views — many within minutes of a beach. Ideal for families, couples, long stays, and anyone who likes the option of packing up and heading north or south to a new beach. Best for: families, long stays, road-trip bases — and anyone who wants a kitchen, a deck and the option to pack up and move to the next beach.

$60–$120/night

Standard Unpowered Sites

Shaded, level sites in established parks. Bring your own caravan or book a powered site. Found in quiet pockets around Tallebudgera, Currumbin and Tweed Heads.

Plan Your Stay
$95–$180/night

Powered Sites

Full power, water and gas hookups for caravans, motorhomes and campervans. Many parks offer ocean-view powered sites with a deck and a view.

Plan Your Stay

Booking Tips

Caravan Park Tips

  • Book powered and ocean-view sites first. They sell out weeks before unpowered sites. If school holidays are on your calendar, lock a powered site 6–12 weeks ahead; shoulder season (May–October, minus school holidays) can usually be booked 3–4 weeks out.
  • Read what's included in the rate. Parks vary — pool, BBQ shelter, laundry and Wi-Fi are free at some, pay-per-use at others, and pet policies and dog fees differ too. We'll confirm inclusions for you before you book.
  • Check the site fits your rig. Towing a 14m+ combo? Confirm site length, width and road access before you book — a few parks have narrow lanes and size limits that will turn you away at the gate.

Booking Tips

Motel Tips

  • Book direct for the perks. The brand's own site (Sails, Star, Pullman, Novotel, Mantra) usually throws in free parking, breakfast or an upgrade perk that OTA rates don't include — same room, better deal.
  • Work the calendar. December–January and school holidays can run 40–60% higher than the rest of the year, while mid-week (Mon–Wed) stays in the May–October off-season are the sweet spot for value.
  • Confirm parking is included. In Surfers and Broadbeach, street parking is metered and tight — a motel that includes on-site parking is worth the difference when you're coming home after a long day on the beach.

Where We Put Guests Who Want It All Handled

Mermaid Beach is the Gold Coast's luxury strip — a row of beachfront towers between the water and the main road. These five are where we send couples, milestone birthdays and anyone who wants the staff to handle everything. JW Marriott ↗ Mermaid Beach From $300/night

Luxury beachfront, infinity pool.

InterContinental ↗ Mermaid Beach From $280/night

Beachfront, ocean views.

The Q1 ↗ Surfers Paradise From $350/night

Sheraton ↗ Mermaid Beach From $250/night

Beachfront, spa.

Hilton ↗ Mermaid Beach From $220/night

Booking Tips

Hotel & Resort Tips

  • Book peak 2–4 months out. December–January, school holidays and the big convention events at Broadbeach sell out first. Off-season stays (May–October) are usually fine 3–6 weeks out.
  • Compare the total, not the sticker price. Breakfast, parking and resort facility charges can add $60–$120 per night. A "cheaper" rate that excludes them often costs more than the inclusive one — always add them up before you pay.
  • Ask about packages before paying room-only. Resort towers often run multi-night packages (two nights plus dinner or spa credit) that work out cheaper than room-only, especially in peak — and they're rarely advertised at the front counter.

Villas for When the Group Chat Is the Itinerary

Private pools, private kitchens, room for the whole gang — these are the villa and private home addresses we recommend when the group is the reason you're travelling. All four book through Booking.com. Starting rates below are for the standard configuration off-peak; winter pool heating, long-stay pricing and group size can all move the final number.

Coastal Villages ↗ Burleigh Heads From $400/night

Luxury pool villas, 5 min to beach.

The Beach House ↗ Tallebudgera From $350/night

Boutique, river views.

Kirra Point Villas ↗ Tallebudgera From $300/night

Beachfront, private pools.

Burleigh Heads Villas ↗ Burleigh Heads From $380/night

Premium, direct beach access.

Booking Tips

Villa Tips

  • Do the group math before deciding. Split a four-bedroom pool villa eight ways in peak and it often beats two or three hotel rooms. Divide the nightly rate by your head count before you compare it against a hotel quote.
  • Confirm pool heating and what's included. In winter (June–August) a heated pool is a premium at many rentals, and cleaning and linen inclusions vary by property. Confirm both are in the rate before you book.
  • Have a card ready for the deposit. Most private villa rentals require a security deposit or card hold, and many are self check-in. We'll flag the deposit terms when we send your shortlist, so nothing surprises you at the door.

Towers Where the City Night Belongs to You

Beachfront towers in Surfers and Broadbeach, from self-contained studios to long-stay serviced apartments — these are the towers where the Gold Coast at night lives on your balcony. Starting rates below are for standard studios and one-bedrooms; two- and three-bedrooms, top floors and extended-stay weeks each price out differently.

Mantra Surfers Paradise ↗ Surfers Paradise From $130/night

Beachfront, self-contained.

Sails Surfers Paradise ↗ Surfers Paradise From $120/night

Beachfront, modern.

Mantra Broadbeach ↗ Broadbeach From $140/night

Broadbeach Beach.

The Star Apartments ↗ Broadbeach From $130/night

Central, convention centre.

Booking Tips

Apartment Tips

  • Floor and aspect matter more than the brand. A twelfth-floor ocean view and a third-floor side view in the same tower are two different holidays. Ask for the floor plan — or ask us to check before you confirm.
  • Budget for tower parking. In Surfers and Broadbeach towers, parking is often a $15–$30 per-night add-on rather than included. If you're driving in, confirm it's in the rate before you book.
  • Ask for extended-stay rates on two-week-plus stays. Most towers offer weekly and monthly pricing that isn't published online — on a fortnight or longer it can cut the total by a third.

Independent & In the Action

Budget & Backpacker Stays

You're here for the coast, not the room. Hostels, budget motels and shared apartments keep the price right and the location right — all in the heart of the action in Surfers Paradise, Burleigh Heads and Southport, with the beach a short walk (or ride) away. Best for: students, backpackers, solo travellers and anyone who'd rather spend their money on the coast than on the room.

$45–$90/night

Shared dorms in the centre of Surfers and Burleigh — easy, social, and the cheapest way to sleep right next to the action.

Budget Motels

Small, clean, central motels in Surfers, Broadbeach and Southport. A private room with air-con for the price of a good dinner for four.

Where the Backpackers Sleep

Dorms and privates in the heart of Surfers Paradise — beachfront, central, and priced for travellers who'd rather spend their money on the coast than on the room. Starting rates below are for shared dorms; private rooms and long-stay weeks price out a little differently, and peak dates fill early.

The Sails ↗ Surfers Paradise From $35/night

Dorms & privates, beachfront.

Q1 Backpackers ↗ Surfers Paradise From $30/night

In Australia's tallest building.

Mantra Budget ↗ Surfers Paradise From $28/night

Budget, central.

Surfers Paradise Lodge ↗ Surfers Paradise From $32/night

Booking Tips

Budget & Backpacker Tips

  • Book peak well out, off-peak last minute. New Year's Eve and school holidays fill up one to two months ahead; a regular off-peak week is usually fine one to two weeks out, or same-day in the quiet months.
  • Private singles sell out faster than dorms in peak. If you want your own lock, book the private early — by the time the dorm is full, the single is often gone.
  • Pay the location premium, not the room premium. Five minutes' walk to the beach in Surfers is worth 10–15% over a similar rate in Southport or Burleigh — on this coast, the walk is where the money goes.

Before You Book

Booking Tips for the Gold Coast

Five things we tell every guest before they lock in dates — the same advice, whether you're booking a $28 dorm in Surfers or a $1,400 beachfront villa in Tallebudgera.

01

Book 3–6 months out for peak, 3–6 weeks out for off-peak

The Gold Coast runs on a calendar: December–January and every school holiday are peak, and the beachfront addresses and resort towers sell out first. Plan peak trips three to six months ahead. For the May–October shoulder (minus school holidays), three to six weeks out gets you the best of what's left, and off-peak dates can often be booked same-week. Give us your dates early and we'll confirm availability before the room sells.

02

Work the peak vs off-peak pricing swing

Off-peak rates (May–October, excluding school holidays) can run 30–50% lower than peak, and mid-week stays (Monday to Wednesday) are typically cheaper than Friday-to-weekend ones. Shifting your dates by a day or two — or swapping a Saturday night for a Thursday — is the single easiest savings move available on this coast. It's the biggest lever we use when shortlisting for a fixed budget.

03

Compare what's actually included, not the headline rate

Before you pay, check what the rate covers: breakfast, parking, pool access, Wi-Fi, beach access and any facility charges. A "cheaper" rate that excludes the things you'll use every day ends up costing more than the all-in one — the total, not the sticker, is the number that matters. That's exactly the check we run on every shortlist before it reaches you.

04

Read the cancellation policy before you confirm

Every booking has a "free cancellation until" date, and that date matters. If there's any chance your plans change, the small premium on a flexible rate is money well spent; once you're past the free-cancellation date, the deposit is usually gone. We'll point out the free-cancellation date on every shortlist we send you — in writing, alongside the rate, before you commit.

05

Watch for the hidden fees before you pay

Resort facility fees, parking, pool heating, security deposits and OTA booking fees are where the sticker price and the final invoice part ways. We check the final price line by line before we send you a quote, so there are no surprises at check-in or on the card statement — the number on your quote is the number you pay, and that's the standard.

Not sure which of these applies to your dates? Send us the dates and budget and we'll come back with a shortlist — availability confirmed, inclusions checked, fees itemised, all in one message.
