Experiences & Things to Do

From world-class surf to rainforest hinterland, from wildlife sanctuaries to sunset cruises — here's what we'd do, if we were you. Every suggestion below is one we've actually done, and we'll happily arrange it for you, from booking to transport.

The Best of the Coast

What to Do on the Gold Coast

The Gold Coast isn't just a strip of beach — it's 20km of coastline backed by the Scenic Rim, with a hinterland of rainforest, a hinterland of theme parks, and a calendar of events that runs year-round. Here's our honest shortlist, from the things you absolutely shouldn't skip to the things that are a bit different to what you'd expect.

Day Trip Ideas

If you've got a car (or you're happy to book a driver), these are the ones worth the trip — and we'll arrange the lot.

Springbrook rainforest
Springbrook & Tamborine

The Hinterland

Springbrook is the big one: rainforest walks, the 40-metre Twin Falls, the Natural Bridge glow-worm cave, and the 73 Falls lookout over the Scenic Rim. Tamborine Mountain (20 minutes south) is the gentler option — the Buderim lookouts, the wineries, and the night markets. An easy half-day or a full day, depending on how deep into the rainforest you want to go.

2.5 hours up the coast, Byron Bay is a different animal: a laid-back beach town with a serious surf scene, a great farmers' market, and a main street that's all boutique and boho. The drive is half the fun — do it via the Pacific Highway, or make it a proper day trip with a stop at the Gold Coast Botanic Gardens (free, 42 hectares, right on the highway).
